New Life in Korea

Hello Guys, I have been in South Korea since October 2008. I signed a year contract and I absolutely LOVE it here, teaching is pretty awesome. I can definately say that TESL is the reason for my teaching success thus far (really!). I work for the YMCA education team here. The YMCA here has an English department, where they employed about 15 foreign English teachers who work within the public schools in the city of Iksan. Most teachers work in more than one school and some up to 10 schools/ week. The most YMCA teachers work is 22 hours/week! This is great as it is considered a full time teaching position. In my case, I had 7 schools (one middle school and the rest elementary) last semester (October- Dec.). Out of all the 7 schools, there was one school I really loved…the Korean teachers were so nice and made me feel welcome. The head English teacher surprised me with a phone call in January and told me that I would be teaching full time at Ji Won Middle School the following semester (March-July), this was great news It would be great to hear from the others as well if possible! Anyway, I am the only foreign teacher at my school but everyone is so nice, I even have my own office so I feel very lucky o be at this school. I love being a middle school teacher (I thought I wanted to teach elementary), the students are awesome. The TESL program gave me the confidence to be an innovative teacher and to let my personality reflect through my teaching. With that being said, I think that this is the reason why the middle school went above and beyond to keep me at their school. They also gave me the opportunity to teach an after school program to make extra money.I am staying plenty busy!
